Biography
Mr. Rudra Narayan Mishra has obtained his Ph.D. from the Centre for Development Studies (CDS), Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, affiliated to the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi. Following a Masters in economics from the University of Hyderabad, he has completed his M.Phil. in Applied Economics at the CDS affiliated to the JNU. The doctoral thesis, titled “Undernutrition in India: Dimensions and Correlates" is a follow-up of his M.Phil. work. Unlike other forms of deprivation, undernourishment is a complex one with varied origins and therefore interventions also need to be varied. Given this premise, his doctoral work brings to the fore immediate correlates of undernourishment (both the dimension of undernourishment in terms of anthropometrics as well as calorie intake) that can be intervened for different vulnerable groups like women and children and for certain category of households belonging to weaker social-economic-occupational categories. Finally, a critical evaluation of dichotomy in measurement of undernutrition is offered to recognise the limitation in its comparison and evaluation and suggest some possible modifications. Along with undernutrition, in recent years he has done research in measurement of poverty, basic facilities for slum population living in urban-Gujarat, evaluation of nutritional intervention schemes for tribal children and livelihood issues of the tribals. So far he has worked in four major research projects funded by various agencies of Government of Gujarat and Government of India. His research interests also lie in exploring the available secondary data sources provided by various governmental and non-governmental agencies for doing relevant social science research.
