Biography
Dr. Seema Rai, Ph.D (BHU) is an Associate Professor & HOD at Department of Zoology, Guru Ghasidas University, Bilaspur (C.G.), India.
Research Interest
working on Pineal gland & Melatonin physiology. She established the immunomodulatory and anti-oxidative nature of melatonin and its receptor expression (MT1and MT2) in lymphoid tissues in seasonal breeders. The team of Dr. S Rai is engaged in establishing the correlation of pineal melatonin, in female reproduction (reproductive hormone and PCOS) and Immunity (general) in small rodents and birds and fishes. Role of Pineal gland and Melatonin in neuroimmunomodulation might be controlled by melatonin via the gene expression of MT 1/ MT2R in lymphoid organs and blood lymphocytes in rodents and human as well. The results may substantiate our hypothesis that melatonin through its receptor regulates immune responses in order to provide a good health for healthy reproduction. Establishment of such a key physiological event of organism may lead us to protect animal biodiversity. Further, studying the level of competence of the pineal indole amine melatonin in reversal of ovarian dysfunction as in Polycystic Ovarian Condition which will be of great help for inducing reproduction in endangered species. Development of specific agonists and antagonist for mammalian melatonin receptor subtypes which may prove beneficial for treatment of human diseases relating to chronobiotic abnormalities, steroid and other drug treatments.
