Biography
I am chemist with specialization in Environmental chemistry. I did Ph.D. on “Microbial decolorisation and structure correlation of hydrophobic textile dyes” from Guru Nanak Dev University (G.N.D.U), Amritsar, India in May 2009. Currently, I am working with the Department of Applied Chemical Sciences and Technology, G.N.D.U. as Incharge of Textile Industrial Service Centre. My major thrust area of research is bioremediation of textile dyes, isolation and identification of by-products. I had great experience of working in National Environmental Engineering and Research Institute (NEERI), India from 1990-1992 on project “Microbial desulfurization of fossil fuels (coal, oil and gas)” where successfully carried out chemo biochemical desulfurization of sour gas using lab scale rotating biological rope contactor bioreactor. I joined World Wide Fund-India as project officer in 1992 where I had successfully researched and developed low cost water pollution monitoring kits. I have 14 years of teaching (Waste management in textile industry) and 10 years of research experience.
Research Interest
Bioremediation of textile dyes, Combined chemical and biological treatment of textile dye wastewater, isolation and identification of dye degradation products using chromatographic and spectroscopic techniques, water and air pollutant analysis, Bioreactor studies.
