Biography
Professor Goverdhan Mehta is a distinguished organic chemist. He is a National Research Professor, Eli Lilly Chair, School of Chemistry at the University of Hyderabad and a Bhatnagar Fellow. He is the former President of the International Council for Science (ICSU) past director of the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. He holds a D.Sc. from University of Marseilles, France, PhD in Organic Chemistry from Pune University -National Chemical Laboratory; and a PhD. Research from Michigan State University and Ohio State University USA. He has been awarded the 4th highest civilian honor, "Padma Shri" in 2000 by the President of India and "Chevalier de la Legion d'Honneur" in 2004. He is a "Fellow of the Royal Society" and a member of the Scientific Advisory Committee to the Prime Minister of India. He has many prestigious awards and innumerable honors to his credit.
