Research Interest
At IIT Kharagpur, research activities on ‘ Orthropaedic Biomechanics’ primarily focuses on the areas of bone and joint mechanics, customized implant design and development towards improved osseointegration using advanced numerical techniques and tissue engineering approach. This interdisciplinary research team is focusing on the application of mechanics for design evaluation of implants using finite element ananlysis and suggest changes for improved design and fixation with bone. Furthermore, validation of clinical hypothesis related to joint replacement, implant design optimization, bone remodelling, fracture healing are being carried out using in vitro and in vivo models. Alternative implant materials and texture designs for improved implant fixation and bone ingrowth are being investigated for long-term survival of the reconstructed joint.
