Research Interest
Our research interest is to synthesize and study the reactivity of metal clusters analogous to biological cluster assemblies that contain two or more structurally distinguishable fragments connected together by one or more covalent bridges. Two such assemblies of interest are Mo-Cu dependent carbon monoxide dehydrogenase ([MoCu]-CODH) and [NiFe]-carbon monoxide dehydrogenase ([NiFe]-CODH). Investigating the structure and reactivity of such analogue systems will allow for the development of important molecular transformations at metal centers and will also serve to study substrate promoted electron transfer between multiple metal centers. Another area of interest is the reactivity of nitric oxide with non-heme diiron complexes. Research in this area is directly related with the functioning of flavodiiron nitric oxide reductases (FNORs) in pathogens which catalyses the reduction of nitric oxide to nitrous oxide and thus helps the pathogens to survive the immune mechanism system in humans and proliferate.
