Born on Jan. 27, 1955. Married; has one son. B. Sc. (July, 1974) & M. Sc. (July, 1976) from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur. Ph. D. (Jan., 1983) from Calcutta University. Currently a Reader. Visiting Scientist: Oxford University (1989), Cambridge University (1992), Imperial College, London (1996).
