Biography
Dr. Razia Patel, is working since last 20 years on various academic and field research projects on issues covering various aspects of Education of minorities – its status study , identification of root causes of illiteracy , factors affecting their developments and remedial actions . She has conducted a 3 years research study on topic, “The Politics of Education of Muslims in India, A critical study and investigation into its impact on Muslim population in Maharashtra”, which involves detailed in depth study of socio economic development parameters of all Muslims from all regions and their educational status and aspirations . Prior to this she was awarded “The Times fellowship” to work on the topic “Muslim women in India – the struggle for living with dignity”. Both these projects highlighted the backward status of the community and also brought some important revelations such as the root cause of their educational backwardness lies in inflexibility of ours system, need for secularization of mainstream education systems, and have holistic approach for inclusion of minorities in mainstream. She has been working as Head Minority cell at IIE on projects related with minority education , and currently working on a 3 year project on ‘Inclusive education for educationally backward minorities – a pilot project at selected schools in Pune” This project is sponsored by Tech Mahindra Group , and is aimed at establishing the root causes of dropouts of children from mainstream education and create a holistic model of education with participation from all stakeholders. She has also published research papers highlighting politics of Muslim development issues and laws in journals like EPW , and have authored Books and have contributed in many books concerning educational and developmental issues of minorities .
