Dr. Shovan Barma

Assistant Professor
Electronics and Communication Engineering
Indian Institute of Information Technology, Guwahati
India

Biography

He did his PhD from National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), Tainan, Taiwan (R.O.C.) in 2015 followed by Postdoctoral research fellow in AMS-VLSI State Key Laboratory, University of Macau, Macau (SAR) China. Her PhD study as well as Postdoctoal research works involve in Biomedical Signal Processing, Emotion Recognition, and Speech Signal Processing. Currently, he is working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering at Indian Institute of Information Technology Guwahati (IIITG) since August 2016. His research focuses on the understanding of human emotions based on gestures, speech and physiologial signals including design & develope of related hardwares.

Research Interest

His research interest includes analysis of human emotions based on gesture, speech and physiological signal especially EEG. Core focus of my work on emotinal state transition analysis to understand that how one particular emotional state influences on another for certain conditions and how such emotional state transions impact or effect on human brain. In this purpose, He used the sate-of-the-art analysis methods of signal processing, neuroimaging, non-invasive brain simulation techniques, and brain computer interface (BCI) to understand the human emotions in more details in different environmental/social perspective. Along with, his research also includes to develop new analysis methods for diseases related to neurological disorders . Besides, He is also working with the time complexity issues of the time-frequency analysis (TFA) methods for long-time physiological data processing which could improve the application of TFA in real-time and Big-data processing.
