Biography

Dr. Mihir Kumar Purkait is a Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology Guwahatiat (IITG). He became Fellow of Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC) in 2017 and Fellow of Institute of Engineers (FIE) in 2016. Prior to joining as faculty in IITG in 2004 he has received his PhD and M. Tech in Chemical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur (IITKGP) after completing his B. Tech in Chemical Engineering from University of Calcutta. He has received several awards like; Dr. A.V. Rama Rao Foundation’s Best PhD Thesis in India and Research Award in Chemical Engineering from IIChE (2007), BOYSCAST Fellow award (2009-10) from the DST, Young Engineers Award in the field of Chemical Engineering from the Institute of engineers (India, 2009), young scientist medal award from the Indian National Science Academy (INSA, 2009). Prof. Mihir Kumar Purkait is energetically involved in frontier areas of Chemical Engineering with his major research interest in the field of membrane based separation processes. His contribution in this field covers both fundamental and applied research.

Environmental pollution control • Membrane technology (preparation/fabrication of ceramic/polymeric membranes and their application in RO, NF, UF and MF) • Treatment of industrial effluent and waste management • Advance separation processes • Smart membrane and responsive materials for environmental, biological and chemical separation • Adsorption • Extraction of value added products from plant sources • Fruit juice clarification
