Biography
Shivaji Sarkar is a combination of a professional journalist and media academician having held administrative positions. He has professional and academic experience of 40 years.He is Course Director of English Journalism at Indian Institute of Mass Communication. He was also course coordinator for Distance/Online/Broadcast programme of Jamia Millia Islamia University. Besides, he is in the Board of Studies of many universities. His research presentation for Vivekanand International Foundation (VIF) on Cross Media Ownership virtually became the base paper for Telecom Regulatory Authority (TRAI). He is dynamic and has association with many universities and professional organisations and expert commentator with AIR, Lok Sabha TV, Doordarshan, Gulf News. His columns on politico-socio-economic issues are regularly read in over 30 newspapers across the country. He writes in English and also in Hindi. He was also associated with Indo-Europe News Project of EU. He broke the story of India’s enormous hydro-carbon reserve. He has worked with many newspapers including The Financial Express as Sr Editor. He has travelled widely and represented India at International Journalists’ conference at Colombo, Sri Lanka, and New Delhi. He was also a key participant at Conflict Resolution international workshop in the UK. He attended key telecom conferences at Bell Labs, US; AT&T at Seattle and Hong Kong, UNESCO meets on journalism curriculum and BBC workshops on creative journalism in Delhi. He has done many studies in IIMC and also IEC analysis for UPVHAS and gave communication plan to UNICEF to make primary health centres more inter-active in UP. He is considered eminent professional. He was chief guest and keynote speaker at NIT, Rourkela Golden Jubilee Celebration in 2015.
