Biography

A cell-biologist by training, I graduated from the University of Mumbai (Bombay) with a bachelors and masters degrees in Microbiology. I worked in the Cancer Research Institute (now ACTREC) at the Tata Memorial Center for my PhD in Biochemistry. I took a break from cancer biology to do a postdoc in mammalian phototransduction at the University of Miami, only to return to cell and cancer biology focusing on cell adhesion and trafficking as a postdoc first and then a Research Assistant Professor in the lab of Dr. Martin Schwartz at the University of Virginia. I moved to IISER, Pune to start my lab in 2010. My research interests include understanding how cell adhesion regulates trafficking and its implications in cell migration and anchorage dependence . Current Position : Associate Professor. Biology Department, IISER, Pune. Wellcome Trust Alliance Senior Fellow. about me.... awards and grants.... 2011- 2016 . Wellcome Trust -DBT Alliance Senior Research Fellowship 2010- 2011 . Ramalingaswami Fellowship from the Dept. of Biotechnology, India. 2007. Gordon Research Conference–Gradient Sensing Migration, Travel Award. 2002. Experimental Biology 2002, ASBMB Travel Award. 2001. Fight for Sight Foundation Post Doctoral Fellowship (award not accepted). 2001- 2003 American Heart Association Post Doctoral Fellowship. 2001. Association for Research in Vision and Opthalmology (ARVO) Travel Grant. 1998- 2000 Senior Research Fellowship, CSIR, India. 1994- 1998 Junior Research Fellowship, Cancer Research Institute, Tata Memorial Center. 1994 .
