Research Interest
Simultaneous design and control of energy-integrated process systems: Energy integration, motivated by the high cost and limited availability of energy, is a key feature of modern process industries. Energy-integrated networks offer significant cost benefits, however are quite difficult to operate and control due to strong interactions among the individual units and network-level dynamics. Effectively controlling these integrated plants is a critical link to the economic viability, and the energy and environmental sustainability of the chemical and energy supply chains. At the same time, design and scheduling (in the context of batch processes) have strong implications on the controllability and effectiveness of these integrated systems. Our work aims at incorporating control aspects right at the design stage so as to achieve optimal balance of economics and operability.
