Research Interest
Prof Aurobinda Routray has expertise in the area of signal processing and embedded systems. His research group team consists of about 25 research scholars (PhD & MS) working in algorithms and systems. They have over 100 international journals, several international conference papers with 5 patents. The primary focus of the group is to develop fast and accurate algorithms for signal detection, classification, information retrieval and then implementation on portable platforms. Many of the lab-models were converted to product prototypes. The major research interests are: 1. Human Monitoring: The research group is developing devices for monitoring alertness, sleep, emotion, aggression etc. using EEG, ECG, EGG, voice, facial-thermal images, respiration rate and various psycho-motor scores. Several health monitoring devices are being developed which are standardized by experiments where multitude of signals are simultaneously collected from participants to validate each other for a particular condition. Some of the prototypes are: (a) Driver Drowsiness Detection System (b) Driver Drowsiness Detection Device (c)Operator Drowsiness Detection Device (d) Go-no-Go System (e) Portable Wireless Go-no-Go System (f) Unobtrusive Go-no-Go System (g) RADAR sleep (h) Pressure Sleep (i) Thermo Sleep. The research group is actively involved in studying the effect of meditation on the cognitive and emotional performance of human brain using an integrated signal and image based approach. Several multi-modal databases have been created which have been analyzed and reported. 2. Machine Diagnostics and Prognostics: Using similar signal processing and analytic methods one of the research groups have developed a very novel system for diagnosis of very weak failure modes in Induction Motor drives. It has been converted into an IoT based networked diagnosis system for a typical industrial environment with many motors. 3. Other Products: The group is also developing smart-meters, underground cable fault detectors, spark detection systems, portable hygiene monitors, city garbage monitors etc.
