Biography
Professor Ghorai was born at Midnapore (West Bengal). He obtained his M.Sc. from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, India, in 1991. He received his Ph.D. degree in 1998 from the National Chemical Laboratory, Pune under the supervision of Prof. Ganesh Pandey. He worked as a post-doctoral research associate with Prof. Michael Schmittel (1998-2000) at the University of Wuerzburg (Germany), as Alexander Van Humboldt fellow in University of Siegen (2000-2001 ) and as post doctoral research fellow with Prof. Joanne Stubbe at the MIT, USA (2001-2002). He then joined the Department of Chemistry at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur in 2002 as an assistant professor. He became an associate professor in 2007. In 2012 he become full professor. At present he is USV Chair Professor and Fellow of National Academy of Sciences (FNASc) His research interests are in the area of synthetic and mechanistic investigation of small ring aza-heterocycle, Memory of Chirality, dianion chemistry and organocatalysis.
