Research Interest
I am primarily interested in the nature and evolution of orogeny through time, and the controls on an orogen?s thermal evolution. This interest has led me to explore the nature and composition of the lower crust, its behaviour during orogeny and the manner of its exhumation to the surface, through a combination of structural, metamorphic, geochemical and geophysical studies. At present, I am actively collaborating with geophysicists in investigating the extent to which the exposed upper crust and the record of its geological evolution can give us an insight into the present-day lower crust. Orogenies commonly result in terrane amalgamation; a natural consequence of this interest is an investigation into the construction of past supercontinents, particularly Rodinia and Gondwanaland.
