Biography
Dr. Dhiraj Mahajan joined IIT Ropar as Assistant Professor in 2013. Prior to this, he was a researcher at ICAMS (Interdisciplinary Centre for Advanced Materials Simulations) in Ruhr University, Bochum (Germany), which he joined soon after his Ph.D from IIT Kanpur. His group at IIT Ropar is focused on correlating micro-structure, deformation and fracture mechanisms, mechanical properties and manufacturing of materials. They use experimental as well as multiscale simulation techniques such as molecular dynamics, crystal plasticity finite element method (CPFEM) and DFT. More recently they have been working on understanding the mechanisms of Hydrogen Embrittlement of metals under static and fatigue loading based on short fatigue crack behaviour of metals. In another collaborative study, he is working on the development of self-healing polymers and polymers for biomedical and energy applications.
