Biography
Baker has carried out numerous studies in the theory of numbers especially in 'transcedence' and 'diophantine' problems. He initiated the theory of linear forms in the logarithms of algebraic numbers. These have widespread applications in connection with classical questions of Gauss, Catalan, Leopoldt, Mordell, Siegel, Mahler, etc.
