Biography
A native of Uttarakhand, India, Dr. Joshi obtained his BS, MS and PhD from Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, India. Presently he is coordinating wheat breeding activities in south Asia under Global Wheat Program of CIMMYT. Dr. Joshi, a DAAD fellowship holder, has made numerous contributions to wheat improvement research by facilitating development of around two dozen wheat varieties and solving major issues with respect to disease resistance, heat and drought tolerance and biofortification in India and South Asia. He has mapped QTLs for spot blotch resistance, stay green trait, heat and drought tolerance and Zn and Fe accumulation in wheat grains. In addition, he has educated hundreds of wheat researchers and farmers of south Asia through participatory approach. For his contribution in educating and motivating wheat researchers, he was awarded “Jeanie Borlaug Laube Women In Triticum Mentor Award 2014” from Borlaug Global Rust Initiative, Cornell, USA. His research findings are published in 115 refereed journal articles; 6 books, book chapters, and reviews; 56 symposia proceedings and 78 symposia abstracts, and has one patent.
