Biography

Professor Allegre has combined exceptional and diverse experimental insights and skills to observe increasingly subtle patterns in the relative abundances of isotopes and elements in rocks and minerals (from the earth, moon and meteorites) with a remarkable theoretical prowess to infer the large scale natural processes that caused such patterns in space and time on all scales. This melding of geochemistry and geophysics into what he aptly termed Çhemical Geodynamics'in a classic and landmrk contribution in 1980 has strongly influenced modern research on the evolution of the earth from its embryonic stage to its present structure.
