Biography
Professor Michael Bate's research has made three extraordinary contributions. He developed and was one of the first proponents of the pioneer neuron hypothesis- How growing neurons use these pioneers as guideposts. He proposed developed and extended the concept of the "founder"cell in muscle development. With his collaborators he has studied the mechanism of synapse formation at the neuromuscular junction and the genes involved in this process.
