Biography
The main field of research activity of Gros has been and still is related to the mechanisms of gene expression and regulation; first characterization of the messenger RNA in bacteria, a finding which has had great consequences for the analysis of gene controlling mechanisms; described for the first time the existence of translation initiation factors. He has devoted his activity to the problem of gene expression in the course of development; first on the lambda bacteriophage sytem and then the skeletal muscle; studied the major steps of myogenesis at a molecular level; also studied the properties and functions of the neuro-cytoskeleton.
