Biography
Professor Whitesides has significantly contributed to the rationalisation of Organometallic Chemistry employing techniques including NMR line shape and analysis in the most unconventional fashion for an organic chemist. Professor Whitesides work with Grinard reagent and later with (CH)? NPF? provided a model for many of these studies. His well known contributions to catalysis by transition metals and surface chemistry have become useful features of industrial chemistry. This interest of his in catalysis led him naturally to work in enzymology - the best among which is his collaborative project in the development of a practical process for using ATP - requiring enzymes as catalysts for organic synthetic procedures.
