Biography
On completion of his B.Sc. degree from Agra University in 1966, Gopal Krishna joined the Atomic Energy Training School and thereafter in 1967 he joined the newly established Radio Astronomy Group at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) as an aca- demic staff member (Research Associate). He did his PhD work under the supervision of Prof. Govind Swarup, using the newly built Ooty Radio Telescope and obtained his PhD (1977) from the Bombay University. During 1978-80 he went for post-doctoral studies to the Max-Planck-Institut f. Radioastronomie (MPIfR, Bonn), as a Fellow of the Alexander von-Humboldt Foundation. In later years, he made sabbatical visits to the Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI, Baltimore), European Southern Observatory (ESO, Santiago) and MPIfR (Bonn). Since 2002, he is a 'Senior Professor' at the National Centre for Radio As- trophysics (NCRA, Pune), an autonomous Centre of TIFR, which is responsible for building and operation of the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (GMRT) near Pune.
