Biography
Professor Blum’s contributions are following: 1. Demonstration of asymmetric replication of hepatitis B (HBV) virus in liver of patients with chronic HBV infection 2. First demonstration of extrahepatic replication of HBV in endothelial cells of liver and spleen 3. Detection and characterization of HBV mutants in serum and liver from patients with chronic HBV infection and hepatocellular carcinoma 4. Gene therapy to treat HBV infection in vitro 5. First in vivo application of gene therapy using anti-sense oligonucleotides in duck HBV model 6. First to establish Tupaia model of replicative model of HBV 7. Nearly 140 papers in basic and 110 in clinical hepatology specially molecular virology of HBV and HCV. Immunopathogenesis of HBV and HCV and hepatocellular carcinoma. Amongst top 10 researches in the world.
