Biography
Blamont's research contributions are: (i) Discovery of the coherence of atomic sublevels; (ii) discovery of the turbopause in the Earth's atmosphere; (iii) first observation of the Einstein red shift on the sun; (iv) first measurements and global mapping of the temperature of the thermosphere; (v) discovery of the local interstellar wind (named by him); (vi) discovery of the hydrogen atmosphere of comets; (vii) first global mapping of night sky telluric atomic emissions; (viii) mapping of the vertical structure of the clouds of Venus; (ix) development of the lidar techniques (first routine measurements of eddy coefficient, alcall atoms, ozone, temperature and density up to 100km altitude); and (x) launch of balloons in the atmosphere of Venus.
