Biography
Tata demonstrated for the first time that thyroid hormones act by regulating RNA and protein synthesis. He discovered multiplicity of RNA Polymerases in eukaryotes; estalished, with other workers, the basis of regulation of transcription by growth and development hormones. He explained the mechanism of morphogenesis and cell death during amphibian metamorphosis. The molecular basis of vitellogenesis and egg protein gene expression were established by him. Regulation of expression of nuclear receptor genes and their developmental singnificance were explained by him.
