Biography
Mahinder Kumar Jain received his BA (Hons) and MA in Mathematics from the University of Delhi. He was awarded DPhil degree (1956) by the University of Calcutta. Subsequently, he was selected for a Free Hanseatic City of Hamburg Research Fellowship for advanced study at the Institute of Applied Mathematics, University of Hamburg, Germany (1957-60). On his return to India, he was awarded the DSc degree (1963) by IIT Kharagpur. In 1965, Jain joined as Head of the Department of Mathematics at the newly founded IIT at Delhi. He has been a Visiting Professor at the Department of Computer Science, University of Illinois, Urbana, Champaign USA (1969). In 1984, Jain was appointed Deputy Director of IIT. He was appointed as the Vice Chancellor of the APS University, Rewa (MP) (1989). After retirement (1992), he joined the Department of Mathematics, University of Mauritius.
