Biography
Predhiman Kaw obtained his PhD (1966) in Plasma Physics from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi, after which he went to Plasma Physics Laboratory of Princeton University as a Research Staff member (1967-71). On returning to India he joined the Physical Research Laboratory (PRL) Ahmedabad as an Associate Professor (1971-75). He then returned to Plasma Physics Laboratory, Princeton University as Principal Research Physicist, with a rank of Professor in Astrophysical Sciences. In 1982, Kaw returned to India and together with his colleagues at PRL founded the Plasma Physics Programme, which was converted into the Institute for Plasma Research (IPR), Bhat, Gandhinagar in 1986. He has been Director IPR since. He received DSc (hc) from Ghent University, Belgium (1991).
