Biography
Mushi Santappa obtained the BA (Chemistry) in 1943 from University of Madras. He did his MSc (Chemistry) (June 1944 - January 1946) from Banaras Hindu University and then left for UK (1946) as GOI Scholar for higher studies. He then obtained PhD (Organic Chemistry) in 1949 from University of London under the guidance of RW West, and another PhD (1951) in 'physical chemistry of high polymers' from Manchester University under the guidance of MG Evans. He is also recipient of honorary DSc from Andhra, Madras, Sri Krishna Devaraya and Madurai Kamaraj universities and honorary DLitt from Gulbarga University. He joined the University of Madras (1952) as Reader in Physical Chemistry, was promoted as Professor (1958) so the University Extension Center, Madurai (now Madurai Kamaraj University) he taught MSc students, returning to Madras University as Head of the Department and Professor of Physical Chemistry (1963). He became UGC Senior Professor (1966); Director, Central Leather Research Institute (CLRI) and Professor of Science and Technology of Leather (1972) and concurrently HOD of Physical Chemistry, University of Madras. He served as Vice-Chancellor of SV University, Tirupathi (1979) as well as the University of Madras (1981).
