Biography
Raghunath Prasad Rastogi obtained BSc (1946) and MSc (1948), and PhD (1952) for his studies in the area metastable equilibrium, all from Lucknow University. He joined Lucknow University as Lecturer in Chemistry (1949) and continued working there up to 1956 on chemical thermodynamics, phase equilibria and thermodynamic properties of mixtures. He was awarded Royal Society and Nuffield Foundation Commonwealth Bursary in 1956 and worked at the University of Reading for 9 months and the University of Edinburgh for 3 months. Thereafter, he moved to the Punjab University as Reader in Chemistry, then Gorakhpur University as Professor and Head of the Chemistry Department (1962) and became Dean of the Faculty of Science and Faculty of Agriculture as well. He was Vice-Chancellor of the Banaras Hindu University (1985-91), CSIR/DST/INSA Emeritus Scientist, and INSA Honorary Scientist.
