Biography
Professor Rita R Colwell is the most influential microbiologist in the world, whose work has had a profound impact on the protection of global waters. Her numerous seminal contributions towards solving the world's water and water-related public health problems range from very focused advances in scientific understanding of the ecology of infectious diseases to promotion of advanced technologies such as remote sensing, and global processes including the role of climate change. She is recognized worldwide for her promotion of science and her leadership in integrating science, technology, and medicine toward secure and safe water. Her interests are focused on global infectious diseases, water, and health, and she is currently developing an international network to address emerging infectious diseases and water issues, including safe drinking water for both the developed and developing world, in collaboration with Safe Water Network, headquartered in New York City.
