Biography
Sarvagya Singh Katiyar obtained his BSc and MSc from Agra University. For his doctoral research he joined National Sugar Institute, Kanpur and worked in the area of chemical kinetics in solutions and earned his PhD degree (1962) under the guidance of NA Ramaiah. Later on his attention moved towards the study of structural organization of the enzyme fatty acid synthetase complex when he worked with John W Porter at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He was the first to determine the kinetic mechanism of this multienzyme complex. Katiyar joined the Department of Chemistry, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur (1961). He became the Head of Department of Chemistry, IIT Kanpur in 1989 after which he moved to the University of Kanpur in 1994 as Vice-Chancellor where he continued for four tenures till 2007.
