Biography
Virendra Singh obtained BSc and MSc degrees from Agra University. Thereafter, he joined Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Mumbai (1957). He was deputed to the University of California at Berkeley (1959-62) where he completed his PhD degree with Geoffrey Chew. He then spent a year each at Caltech and the Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton and returned to TIFR (1964) where he became Full Professor (1970), Senior Professor (1981), Professor of Eminence (1990) and also worked as its Director (1987-97). He spent two years at Rockefeller University, New York as Visiting Faculty. He formally retired from TIFR (2003) and continued there as INSA CV Raman Research Professor till 2008.
