Biography

Ms. RuchitaBeri is a Senior Research Associate and Coordinator, Africa, Latin America, Caribbean and United Nations Centre at the Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses (IDSA), New Delhi. She researches on political and security issues in Sub-Saharan Africa, India-Africa relations and Emerging Powers in Africa. She is currently the Vice President of the African Studies Association of India, a member of the Africa Committee of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), and serves on the Executive Board of the Forum for Indian Development Cooperation (FIDC). She is also a member of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce (FICCI) Task Force on Blue Economy. Ms. Beri has participated in many international conferences and regularly lectures at several institutions in India, such as the National Defence College, Foreign Service Institute, Army War College and College of Naval Warfare. She is the Editor of Africa Trends, a quarterly magazine published by IDSA and is also on the Editorial Board of Austral: Brazilian Journal of Strategy & International Relations. She has edited several books including Africa and Energy Security (2009), India and Africa: Enhancing Mutual Engagement (2013) India and Africa: Common Security Challenges for the Next Decade (2016); and co- edited a monograph United Nations Security Council Reform: Perspectives and Prospects (2014). She has contributed journal articles and book chapters to over 80 publications. She has an MPhil in African Studies from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, and a diploma on Conflict Studies from the Department of Peace and Conflict Research, Uppsala University, Sweden.
