Biography
Dr. Krishna R. Murthy obtained his M.B.B.S. degree from Bangalore Medical College in Bangalore, India and completed his specialty training in Ophthalmology at the Minto Regional Institute of Ophthalmology also in Bangalore. He completed a Vitreoretinal Fellowship and research training at Sankara Nethralaya in Chennai, India. Currently, he is practicing as a vitreoretinal surgeon at the Vittala International Institute of Ophthalmology and the Prabha Eye Clinic and Research Centre, both in Bangalore. He is a member of the prestigious Royal College of Ophthalmologists in London. In collaboration with the World Diabetes Foundation, he is driving highly successful projects such as NAYANA and CODE, which are mobile ophthalmic units involved in the detection and treatment of diabetic retinopathy in rural and semiurban areas of Karnataka. His research areas include diabetic retinopathy, retinopathy of prematurity, neuroophthalmology and HIV-related ophthalmic diseases. At IOB, he is carrying out proteomic investigation of vitreous humour of the human eye in diverse pathological conditions.
