Biography
Dr Rajeeb K. Swain is a developmental biologist who studies development of vertebrate vascular and hematopoietic system using zebrafish as a model organism. He has a PhD degree from University of Tübingen, Germany and carried out his dissertation work in Prof. Herbert Steinbeisser’s laboratory at Max Planck Institute for Developmental Biology, Tübingen and University of Heidelberg, Germany. He then joined Prof. Roy Bicknell’s laboratory at University of Birmingham, UK as a research fellow to study molecular regulation of tumour angiogenesis. His interest in clinical research took him to the Paterson Institute for Cancer Research, Manchester, UK where he studied the role of circulating tumour cells in cancer metastasis (mentor – Prof. Caroline Dive). Since December 2011, he heads the vascular biology laboratory at ILS, Bhubaneswar. Academic Qualifications Ph.D. (2004): Developmental Biology, University of Tübingen, Germany. M.Sc. (1996): Biotechnology, University of Pune, India. B.Sc. (1993): Biology (Zoology honours), Utkal University (Bhadrak College), India.
