Biography

Dr. Rai was born in Allahabad, India. He received his Bachelor’s from University of Allahabad, Allahabad, Master`s by research from G.B. Pant. Univ., Pantnagar and Ph.D. from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, India. He joined Prof. Ann Marie Schmidt’s laboratory as a Postdoctoral Research Scientist in 2008 at Columbia University Medical Center, New York, USA and later in 2010, relocated with her at the Diabetes Research Program, NYU Langone Medical Center, New York. His research focused on two areas: the study of the RAGE ligands family of molecules mediated RAGE signaling and the analysis of the mechanisms by which RAGE mediates vascular dysfunction, Diabetes and Cancer (J. Exp Med, 2012, J. Biol. Chem., 2012, Structure, 2011 and Circulation Research, 2010). Dr. Rai received Robert S. Holzman Award, 2011 for Excellence in Research for the outstanding investigation at NYU, School of Medicine, New York, USA. He is recipient of several fellowships and teaching assistantship during his career. He has mentored five students during his tenure at Columbia University and NYU, New York, USA. Dr. Rai is currently working as a Principal Investigator at this institute, Institute of Life Sciences (ILS), Bhubaneswar, India; a leading institute specializing in infectious diseases. He is the recipient of two prestigious 2012-13 awards: the Ramanujan Award and the Ramalingaswami Fellowship Award that is primarily given to selected Indian scientists working overseas. He serves as Ad hoc reviewer for Science and Science Translational Medicine Journals.
