Biography
Prof. Ganguli joined INST on 3rd January, 2013 on lien from Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (Web:Â http://web.iitd.ac.in/~ashok/), where he is a Professor of Chemistry. He obtained his Ph.D degree from the Solid State & Structural Chemistry Unit (SSCU) of Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore in 1990 for which he got the Sudborough Medal of Indian Institute of Science. He has been a visiting scientist at Dupont Company, USA (1990-91) and a post doctoral associate and visiting scientist at Ames Laboratory, Iowa State University, USA (1991-93 and 2004-05) and a visiting scientist at EPFL(Lausanne) in June-July 2011 and a visiting Professor at EPFL(Lausanne) in June 2016. His research area includes designing of nanostructures using microemulsions with desired size, shape, shell thickness and aspect ratio for applications in photocatalysis, photovoltaics, efficient electrocatalysis for hydrogen and oxygen evolution reactions and porous functionalised nanostructures for toxin removal and water purification.
Research Interest
Major research interest is in the field of high temperature superconductors. He is also a keen speaker in schools and colleges for promoting science with the conviction of promoting science in the remotest parts of India. Prof Ganguli has initiated a outreach programme which has apart from lectures, presentations involves students with workshops and other developmental activities. Prof. Ganguli has been awarded the MRSI Medal (2006), the CRSI Medal in 2007 and the CRSI -CNR Rao National Prize in 2013. He is a fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences(FASc), National Academy of Sciences(India) (FNASc), Fellow of The Royal Society of Chemistry, London(FRSC) and Fellow of the Asia Pacific Association of Materials(FAPAM). He has also served as Associate Editor of Bulletin of Material Science, Member, Editorial Board, Ind. J. Chem.A and J. Chem. Sci.
