Biography
After completing B.E.(Civil) from University of Madras, received Master’s Degree by research in Civil Engineering from IIT, Madras and Ph.D. degree from Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangaluru. Prior to joining JUET, in Jan., 2013, he was working at CSIR-Structural Engineering Research Centre, Chennai, Govt. of India for nearly 30 years and served as a Chief Scientist and Advisor (Management) and Head, Wind Engineering Laboratory. He is a recipient of CSIR-DAAD Scholarship (1987-88) and UNDP Fellowship (1992-93) and carried out research studies in the field of wind engineering at Ruhr University, Bochum, Germany and University of Western Ontario, Canada, Colorado State University, USA and Building Research Establishment, UK. Dr. Arunachalam has contributed to the Indian Standards on Wind Loads, IS 875: Part (3) (1989). He is a recipient (as a team) of CSIR Engineering Technology Shield and A.S. Arya – UoR Disaster Prevention Award (2000) for the contribution towards cyclone disaster mitigation and best Research papers publication (1999-2000 & 2000-2001) at CSIR-SERC. He is one of the Editors of the Journal of Wind and Engineering published by Indian Society for Wind Engineering. He has to his credit 104 research papers published in national and international journals and conferences, and 193 research and consultancy technical reports.
