Biography
Dr Sanat Agrawal has done his graduation and doctorate in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Kanpur, UP, India. He obtained his Master of Engineering in 1990 with honors from University of Roorkee, India (presently IIT Roorkee) in Mechanical Engineering. His specialization in Master of Engineering was Machine Design Engg. He was awarded PhD degree in 2002 from IIT Kanpur. The title of his PhD dissertation was "Analysis and Synthesis of Mechanical Error in Rapid Prototyping Processes Using Stochastic Approach." He analyzed the error at the tool tip in several Rapid Prototyping (RP) processes (now known as Additive Manufacturing or AM in short) due to tolerances and clearances in the links and joints. He also performed optimal allocation of tolerances and clearances in the links and joints to minimize the error at the tool tip. He has several years of experience in Computer Aided Design (CAD) and AM area. He served as a Foreign Guest Researcher at National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), MD, USA. He worked there on generating an information model for the representation of heterogeneous material data based on ISO 10303 (STEP). This will improve data transfer capabilities from design software, e.g. CAD to additive manufacturing (AM) systems. He was a post doctoral fellow at the Central University of Technology (CUT) at Bloemfontein, South Africa. He developed a methodology to make terrain models using GIS (Geographic Information Systems) data by AM. He was also a post doctoral fellow at Southern Methodist University (SMU) at Dallas, TX, USA. He has experience in several CAD, CAE and FEA software.
