Biography

Professor D. K. Rai is currently head of department of Physics and Materials Science and Engineering at Jaypee Institute of Information Technology. He joined the institute as Assistant Professor in 2001. He did his post-graduation in 1988 and PhD in 1994 in Physics from Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi. Prior to joining JIIT, he worked as lecturer in the department of Physics at Kamla Nehru Institute of Physical and Social Sciences, Sultanpur as lecturer (1995-96), as research associate of CSIR in the department of Physics, BHU (1996-97) and as lecturer in the department of Physics, UNSIET, Purvanchal University, Jaunpur (1997-2001). Along with the teaching, Prof. Rai is actively involved in research in the area of ion conducting materials and devices. He was associated with department of Chemical Engineering, National Taiwan University, Taiwan from May 2007 to April 2008 as post-doctoral fellow sponsored by National Science Council of Taiwan. He worked there on growth of non-linear crystals. His current research interests are ion conducting polymer electrolytes, solid state batteries and fuel cells. Prof. Rai is a life member of Indian Solid State Ionics Society and Indian Science Congress Association. He was elected as recorder in the Materials Science section of Indian Science Congress for the years 2010-2011 and 2011-2012. He received best poster award in Asian Conference on Solid State Ionics, 1998 and young scientist award in 3rd Asian Conference on Solid State Ionics, 1992.
