Biography
Professor A. K. Singh (born May 1959) did B.A. (1978), M.A. in Ancient Indian History, Culture and Archaeology (1980), Ph.D. (1986) and M.A. in Museology (1987) from Banaras Hindu University. He joined Jiwaji University as Lecturer on 2nd January 1989 and presently he is Professor and Head of the Department of Ancient Indian History, Culture and Archaeology as well Chairman of the Board of Studies. He has varied administrative experiences as Security In-charge, Joint Proctor and Co-ordinator of the Centre for Languages. Anant Sadashiv Altekar Medal and B.H.U. Medal awarded to him for securing first position in M. A. Ancient Indian History, Culture and Archaeology Examination. For Ph. D. work, B.H.U Scholarship awarded for one year then U.G.C. JRF was awarded for three years. I.C.H.R. Post-Doctoral Fellowship granted him to work on the Project ‘A Study of Minor Inscriptions and Graffiti of Early Medieval Central India’, and Senior Fellowship of American Institute of Indian Studies, Centre for Art and Archaeology granted to work on the Project ‘Scribes and Engravers of Ancient Indian Inscriptions’. He has completed one U.G.C. Major Research Project on ‘Early Socio-Economic, Political and Cultural Formation in Northern Madhya Pradesh (up to 13th century A.D.)’, and a I.C.H.R. Project on ‘Archaeology and Tradition of Northern Madhya Pradesh’, and another U.G.C. Major Research Project on ‘Documentation and Study of Brahmi and Nagari Inscriptions and Masons’ Marks of Northern Madhya Pradesh’ is near completion. He explored ample of archaeological materials in Northern Madhya Pradesh under Departmental Archaeological Exploration Programme with the permission of Archaeological Survey of India. Professor Singh has supervised a number of Ph.D. and M. Phil. students. Currently a number of research students are working under his supervision
