Biography

 Dr. D.S. Gambhir is a pioneer and one of the biggest names in the field of Interventional Cardiology. He has more than 10,000 coronary interventions to his credit. With his master skills not only has he conducted complex and Multivessel Angioplasties but he also guided and trained a large number of doctors through live demonstrations in India and overseas. An MBBS and MD from Maulana Azad Medical College, Delhi, Dr. Gambhir is a trailblazer in our country, in coronary interventions by stent implantation, Atherectomies and retaliation for the removal of obstruction from the arteries, angioplasty for unprotected left main coronary stenosis and high risk coronary interventions using the percutaneous support device. He has successfully performed the largest number of interventions for left-main Coronary Artery Stenosis and Coronary Bifurcation Lesions, the two most significant challenges in the field of nonsurgical treatment of coronary artery disease. By his innovative skills, and research-oriented mind, Dr. Gambhir was the first Indian Cardiologist to develop a drug coated stent in 2002, in collaboration with a group of clinical scientists from India. Presentation of clinical data on this new stent, the second only to a similar U.S. product, in one of the largest meetings of Interventional Cardiologists in Paris, not only won him great appreciation but also brought laurels to our country. Prof. Gambhir has been actively involved in activities aimed at prevention of heart disease and heart attacks in our country by writing articles, delivering public lectures, organization of health camps, and participating in live TV shows. His monthly column in ‘SAMVAD’, a community news magazine with a circulation of more than one lakh has earned him great admiration from the citizens of Noida and South Delhi. He has many membership awards and accreditation to his credit- State Award by the Government of Delhi; “Life Time Achievement Award” from the Delhi Medical Association; “Distinguished Physician Award” from the Association of American Cardiologists of Indian Origin, USA. DR. Gambhir has worked as an Asstt. Professor-Cadiology (1985)-G.B Pant Hospital and currently working as a Director Cardiology department-Kailash Hospital (2013).
