Anil K Mandal

Biography

Anil Kumar Mandal is a glaucoma specialist with particular interest and expertise in developmental glaucoma. Dr Mandal was trained at the University of Calcutta and at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. He completed his fellowships in glaucoma and emergency ophthalmology at AIIMS. He was a visiting research fellow at the Kellogg Eye Care Centre and the Doheny Eye Institute in the United States. Dr Mandal has won several national and international awards and has published widely in premier medical journals worldwide. His research focuses on the clinical and genetic aspects of glaucoma in adults and children, which earned him the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award for excellence in science from the Government of India in 2003; he was the first ophthalmologist to receive this award. In 2009 he was elected as fellow of the National Academy of Medical Sciences for his contribution to science and ophthalmology.
