Biography

  S. K. Sundaramoorthy is Executive Chairman of the Board, Managing Director of Lotus Eye Hospital and Institute Limited. He is a eye surgeon acknowledged worldwide. He is one of the teacher and trainer from India recognized by International college of Ophthalmology. He obtained his MBBS degree from the Stanley Medical College ,Chennai in 1971. After practicing for five years in Tirupur, he joined and completed M S (Opthal) in Madurai Medical College in 1980. He did a fellowship programme in Retinal surgery in Sankara Netralaya, Chennai(1980-1982). Again he pursued his higher studies in United Kingdom, obtained twin super specialty degrees from prestigious London and Edinburgh Universities. Subsequent to that he served in popular ophthalmic Institutions in UK and USA(1982-1989). He started private practice in Coimbatore from 1989 with a small team of doctors. The hospital was named as LOTUS EYE HOSPITAL AND RESEARCH CENTER. In a span of 15 years the hospital activity branched out to four centers (Coimbatore 2, Salem, Tirupur). During this period he has introduced multiscan in 1998 for the first time in India and further introduced EPILASIK in 2004 for the first time in Southeast Asia. He introduced three free screening schemes 1. ILAM VIZHIGAL (Young eyes) for school children 2. CRYSTAL CLEAR VISION for textile labourers in Tirupur 3. KALAMELLAM KAN PARVAI (Eternal vision) for patients suffering from Glaucoma disorder. 4. First free IOL surgery for camp patients in India in 1994. 5. First Eye Hospital to introduce no stich Phaco for cataract. In recognition of his charity work under the banner of LOTUS VISION RESEARCH TRUST Lions International Pollachi and Dharapuram Chapters awarded him with a title of ‘KANNOLI KAVALAR’ (SAVIOR OF EYE SIGHT)
