Biography

Dr AP Jain is Director Professor, Department of Medicine at Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (MGIMS). An alumnus of King George Medical College (KGMC) Lucknow, Dr Jain obtained his MD from KGMC in 1970. He also obtained PhD in Medicine in 1990 from Nagpur University and became fellow of Indian college of physicians. Dr Jain joined MGIMS in 1974 as a lecturer in Medicine and was head of the Department of Medicine between 1994 and 2010. He helped the Department of Medicine build a state-of-the-art intensive care, stroke and hemodialysis units and also launched a geriatric clinic in the hospital. He also introduced Post Graduate diploma in Geriatric Medicine (awarded by Indira Gandhi National Open University) and programme in family medicine at MGIMS. His other important assignments at MGIMS include warden of the Jawaharlal Nehru Boy's hostel, in-charge of the central drug store and alumni association, Medical Superintendent of Kasturba Hospital, Sevagram and chairperson, Ethics committee at MGIMS.
