Biography
Dr Ashish Satav holds MD (Medicine) from Government Medical College, Nagpur. Son after his postgraduation in 1998, he joined the department of Medicine at MGIMS as a lecturer. After a year, he chose to work full time for the heathcare of tribals in Melghat, about 250 north-west of Sevagram. He is also president of MAHAN Trust (Meditation, AIDS, Health, Addiction, Nutrition) and his community based healthcare the Melghat region for the past 11 years has helped tribals in the region access medical facilities they had been deprived of since years. Dr. Satav has reduced under 5 children mortality and prevalence of severe malnutrition by more than half and age specific mortality (16-60 years) by one sixth in 17 villages of Melghat through home based child and adult care with the help of village health workers using randomized control trial method. Dr. Satav has also presented papers at national and international level. He has bagged several awards for his social service and medical research. He is member of Bhavishya Alliance, an international alliance for reducing malnutrition in Maharashtra, state level Village Child Development Committee of Rajmata Jijau Mother & Child , Health & Nutrition Mission of Govt. of Maharashtra, and European Society of Pediatric research.
