Biography

Dr Kalyan Goswami graduated from North Bengal Medical College, and obtained MD (Biochemistry)from Institute of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu University. A FAIMER fellow, Dr Goswami was trained in medical education from National Teacher Training Center (NTTC) of JIPMER, Puducherry. He also received e-training on standards of medical education from Open University Center for Education in Medicine, UK. He has also been trained in bio-statistical application of quality assessment in clinical laboratory from Indian Statistical Institute. He received training on quality control organized by CDC, Atlanta under Labs for Life programme, Govt. of India. He is also trained in ethics in clinical research from KEM, Mumbai and received course certificate of “Protecting Human Research Participants” from National Institute of Health, USA; currently he is the secretary of institutional ethics committee. His research interest include oxidative and glycative stress, apoptotic impact and immune modulation for drug development, metabolic stress and application of bio-statistics in quality control of clinical chemistry. Besides, he is involved in educational research on non-conventional and integrated teaching, he is currently serving as resource person for medical education technology unit of MGIMS. His work established herbal polyphenolics and their synthetic analogs as well as silver nano-particle as important lead against filariasis and explored novel approach of targeted apoptosis to meet this objective. He is recently working on identification and validation of newer targets for future drug designing. Dr Goswami has worked as a co-investigator in National Repository Project for filarial parasites and reagents under Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India and has collaborated with ICT, Mumbai and Institute of Medical Sciences, Varanasi and City University of New York. His earlier work on detection of auto-antibody against mannose binding lectin as Scientist in Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) led to development of a diagnostic kit for rheumatoid arthritis. He has published 55 articles- 33 International, authored a chapter in a book and has one US patent to his credit. He has presented more than 50 research papers in national and international fora.
