Ranjan Kumar Nandy

Biography

 Dr. Ranjan K Nandy is working as Scientist E in the Division of Bacteriology, National Institute of Cholera and Enteric Diseases (NICED), Kolkata since September 2012. He began his career as Scientist B of ICMR Virus Unit, Kolkata with his inclusion in the ICMR family in December 2000. He received his Master degree in Biochemistry and subsequently Ph.D. (Biochemistry) from the University of Calcutta in 1997. He got his specialization on microbiology and molecular biology with emphasis to characterize pathogenic Vibrio cholerae. Dr. Nandy did his postdoctoral research at Bose Institute, Kolkata to study role of V. cholerae immunogenic outer membrane protein OmpW in intestinal colonization process and to develop ompW targeted PCR based assay for V. cholerae identification. As a postdoctoral researcher at Washington University at Saint Louis, USA he worked in the area of advance genomics. Dr. Nandy is continuing his research for better understanding of pathophysiological, immunological, and molecular biological aspects of V. cholerae in relation to its molecular mechanism of pathogenesis and nature of protective antigens. In addition, he is also involved in the studies on molecular epidemiology of pathogenic V. cholerae. He has published more than 60 research papers dealing with characterization of virulence factors, protective antigens and molecular epidemiology of V. cholerae. His membership includes Society of Biological Chemists and The Indian Science Congress Association.
